SERVICE PROJECT: FOOD and WARM FUZZIES

 

FOOD:                                                                                             

By supplementing fresh produce, dairy products

and bread with the non -perishable foods you

donate, Food for People can provide nutritious

meals for the thousands of adults, children    

  

Shop and Bring:

-Nutritional Drinks

-Breakfast Cereals

-Beans

-Boxed & Canned Juices

         Humboldt County Hunger Facts:

 

•           26% of children are living in poverty, and 52.4%

             receive free or reduced cost school lunch.

•           34% of low-income adults, including seniors, are

            at risk for hunger. Most are living on fixed

            incomes or surviving paycheck to paycheck.

 

 

                   Food for People Fast Facts:

 

•           helped more than 12,000 people each month,

            40% of which are children.

•           distributed 1.6 million pounds of food to local

            people in need.

•           provided hungry children with 16,144 lunches

            during the summer, 52,188 snacks after school,

            and10,663 backpacks of kid-friendly foods for

            the weekend.  

•           served 600 low-income seniors each month.

•           helped more than 100 homebound adults each month

 

WARM FUZZIES:  

                          

 

Share some warmth with those in need:

Bring:

New pair of socks (prefer white tube socks but any will help)

Gloves, Mittens, Hat, Scarf

New or gently used:

Jacket, coat, vest, or sweater.

  

Many local agencies distribute warm clothing items to those in need in our community including:

  •   Betty’s Blue Angels
  •   Eureka Rescue Mission
  •   Coats for the Cold
